Steyr Gams Ultralight bolt action rifle | Presentation at the Steyr Challenge 2023
From 29.9.2023 to 1.10.2023 it was at Steyr Arms time again. The Steyr Challenge 2023 has been on the Seetaler Alpe military training area and the new products for 2023 were presented in a festive setting.
The programme items over 3 complete days included:
- Friday 29.9.2023: Presentation of the Steyr Arms product innovations 2023 with partners and dealers in a festive setting in the heated marquee

- and the new STEYR chamois weapon - the ultimate high mountain weapon - Saturday 30.9.2023: Public Day for all Steyr Arms fans. Visitors were offered an outdoor exhibition, 50 BMG Longrange Shooting at 1000 mProduct tests directly at the shooting range up to 300 metres, Food trucks and Fun for Kids programme
- Sunday 1 October 2023: Realisation of the Steyr Challenge 2023 for the title "The toughest hunters in the Alps"
For us at FBT, it was of course a special experience to be there when the Steyr Gams was presented to sales partners and potential customers, including test shooting.
We are proud to have developed the STEYR Gams together with Steyr Arms and experienced hunters. Thanks to the Weapon construction know-how from Steyr Arms and ours on the subject of Carbon shaft a hunting rifle (bolt action) with a previously unrivalled 2.4 kg weight.
Steyr Gams - Background information
Based on the Steyr Scout, the GAMS offers an integrated Picatinny rail in the Aluminium system sleeve and the well-known Trigger units of the Steyr SM12 or CLII.
Configurable: The selection of prints from Fuse wheel + French engraver about Hand tensioner + French engraver until Safety wheel + pressure point trigger.
The fluted barrel is fitted with a Mouth thread M15x1 and has a match muzzle. It is cold hammered and extremely resistant due to the Mannox coating.
The faces and reactions of the many visitors as they "take the chamois in their hands" and Test shooting in 6.5 Creedmoor showed us that we were doing something right.

Also interesting were the many Discussions about the barrel length of the chamois which some considered to be perhaps too short.
Beforehand, we had carried out a test with Blaser R8 barrels in our own shooting cellar and shortened them by 25 mm each in many calibres.
